The James Brand stands apart in the growing everyday carry space with their commitment to craft, quality, and ingenious twists that level up the basics into must-have daily essentials. When they set their minds on making a more practical key-chain, it was clear the solution needed to do more than just tame the jangling tangle of brass weighing down our pockets; it might as well do a dozen other jobs as well. To get after this little do-it-all, we looked to an old-school DIY improv–the carabiner. Then, together, we decided to make it way better. Since this one wouldn’t have to be your lifeline grappling a Class 5 at Red Rocks, we could turn our attention to more practical considerations. Drawing on a clear design language, we explored a range of approaches, landing on a double-arm pivot and two-chamber framework to help keep things extra secure and organized. Then we flattened and sculpted the machined shape so it sits closer and clips cleaner to the webbing on your favorite pack or to secure a tie-down when your roof rack needs a little help. Enter the Mehlville. It’s a harmonious blend of contemporary form and optimal functionality for modern carry. But does it carry keys? Yes… And… Now, let the improvisation begin.
